75th Sharpie National Championships, Yeppoon
29th December 2017 - 5th January 2018
Western Australians travelled the furtherest to the 75th Sharpie National Championships held in Yeppoon, Queensland with The Purple Circle (WA910) and, with skipper Ash Gabrielson, Mark Lewis and Peter Ivanac, took out the 75th National title. The Purple Circle finished the 8 race regatta on 10 points (dropping their last race), ahead of the South Australians Chris Went, Harry Fisher and Tom Manhood sailing Went Management (SA905) on 19 points and Jason Heritage, Angus Hughes in Maelstrom (SA932) with 22 points.
Close fleet sailing inspired the national television networks to cover the 2018 Sharpie Nationals being held in Yeppoon -Channel Nine was giving dailiy updates and Channel 7 got into the action interviewing race leaders, the organisers as well as the young champ from the ACT - watch it here.

Queensland Sharpies and the 75th Sharpie National Championships (2017/18)
Queensland Sharpie Assoc. selected Keppel Bay Sailing Club (KBSC) at Yeppoon as the venue for the 2017/2018 titles, following the clear preference nominated in our recent national survey. The Club and local Sharpie guys, headed by Damian Byrt, have shown extreme enthusiasm for running the series, so it promises to be great event.
