NSW / ACT SHARPIE ASSOCIATION
ACT Dinghy Titles - 14-15 November 2015, Lake Burley Griffin
Another ACT titles has been run and won, well done to Michael Forster who took the chocolates in a stirring come from behind win in the final heat in a typically light, fluky, challenging (shithouse) breeze. 2nd place went to the Pros on Airtight with Danny Keys at the helm. Great to see some new sails from a "local" sailmaker getting around. They look great and get hold of Mick Babbage at MEB sails if your looking for some new rags. These guys pipped out local legend Matt Owen in the half re-furbed Shake and Bake, on a countback, it was a seriously tight regatta with 3 heat winners and everyone carrying big numbers at some stage during the regatta.

Again the strong youth presence is a great advertisement for the class.

Bit of a blow on over Botany Bay on Sunday 1 March....
Eight (8) sharpies went to GRSC and set sail on what started out a perfect day albeit pretty light. We got about 3/4 of a race in with the Loaded Dog leading followed by Irish Frog and Blur with everyone super close. Then came the southerly...... 52 knots recorded at the airport. 3 boats made it to the sailing club beach. The Bear broke a mast. the other 4 boats got washed onto the beach round the corner. We had SES, Westpac choppers the lot. 9 tasars broke masts out of the GRSC club. Pretty exciting day down the river club. Everyone got back safe and plenty of froffies consumed in the bar that is now dominated by sharpie pictures.

2013/14 - NSW Sharpies racing of the Anzac Day weekend at Bateman's Bay for the final round of the State Titles was incredibly close. Big breeze on Saturday caused the race committee to abandon all racing - just as the sharpies were approaching the bottom mark in up to 35knots. Read more below.
Shazam in action - if they thought it was blowing for Round 2 of the NSW titles, Round 3 at Bateman's Bay was 'over the top' with first two races abandoned. Photo courtesy Robert Owe Young.

Great start to the 2013-14 season at the YMCASC
Lake Burley Griffin turned on a classic Canberra nor-Wester for the first round of the club championships and 8 sharpies took to the water - with blue skies and a moderate breeze it couldn't be better. Another 8 boats were out for club's regular pointscore this weekend, including a couple of new crews getting into the action. The breeze - altough shifting from NW to SW, kicked in and there were some great reaches, near island misses, lead changes and tight finishes - as well as a couple of swims to keep the spectators interested. The newly renovated clubhouse on Yarralumla Bay is now fully open and looking forward to host the ACT Dinghy Championships on the weekend of 16-17 November 2013.
