Western Australians travelled the furtherest to the 75th Sharpie National Championships held in Yeppoon, Queensland with The Purple Circle (WA910) and, with skipper Ash Gabrielson, Mark Lewis and Peter Ivanac, took out the 75th National title. The Purple Circle finished the 8 race regatta on 10 points (dropping their last race), ahead of the South Australians Chris Went, Harry Fisher and Tom Manhood sailing Went Management (SA905) on 19 points and Jason Heritage, Angus Hughes in Maelstrom (SA932) with 22 points.
Close fleet sailing inspired the national television networks to cover the 2018 Sharpie Nationals being held in Yeppoon -Channel Nine was giving daily updates and Channel 7 got into the action interviewing race leaders, the organisers as well as the young champ from the ACT – watch it here.
